The Winslet Phenomenon

After all the Oscars hype and the rather cool reception by some reviewers I wasn't expecting too much of The Reader.  In the event I was bowled over.  Not only by Winslet, but by the rest of the cast and the remarkable team behind the film.  No one seems to have pointed out that this is a Fantasy Filmmakers League line-up.  Stephen Daldry directing, both Roger Deakins and Chris Menges behind cameras, a script by David Hare, and Ralph Fiennes playing opposite Winslett.  Add the remarkable young David Cross and Bruno Ganz and that's practically unbeatable.
It's a pity that so many comments have missed the moral complexity of the story.  I want to read the novel now.
Those in the know say Winslet is even better in Revolutionary Road - and there's still time to see it.
